Random Fact About Buster:

(Click the little dumbass to get another fact)

"One time I was with Buster in the back of a pickup truck, along with a live deer. Buster goes up to the deer and says, 'I'm Buster! SAY IT!' Then he manipulates the deer's lips in such a way as to make it say, 'Buster' ... It wasn't exactly like it, but it was pretty good for a deer!'"

Breaking News

Short, temporary post until I can blog about it.

I beat my PR in the 50 mile distance.

Brutal race but I nailed a 12:36 which is an hour faster than I ever have in 4 tries.

Tired.

Sore.

Off tomorrow.

Life is sweet.

Since I'm lazy and not averse to recycling my own stuff, here is almost exactly what I wrote last year on this occasion with updates noted:

Thursday May 17th 15th, 2007 2008

I'm off tomorrow to go back to Bishop, CA for the High Sierra 50-Mile Ultra Marathon on Saturday. Yes, I just finished the Wild Wild West two weeks ago and yes, I'm a bit off in the head, but this won't be the first time I run this race. It's been 4 1 year and I think I'm ready again again.

As always, send me good vibes on Saturday (doesn't matter exactly when because I'll be running from 0600 until around 1800 but nearer the end, I could probably use the well-wishing) and if you are bored, read up on my past experiences with this monster:

It's that time of year again. For the ninth year in a row, I'm heading to Lone Pine California to run the Wild Wild West Trail Marathon.

I will be without my long-time running sidekick Sir Phil because he decided to wreck himself on his bike recently.

So I will be solo this year but will be joined by my lovely wife who agreed to take care of the logistics this year.

I run on Saturday, May 3rd so send good vibes my way Saturday morning.

Past years' insanity of this race for your viewing pleasure:

I DID IT FOR THE THIRD TIME!

I finished survived the Bishop 50 Mile Ultra-Marathon.

I think this says it all:

Early On
After

As always, stories and pics and more pics to come after I have more blood than lactic acid but for now, the important thing to know is that I got a PR by ten minutes even though I ran an extra two miles. Yeah, I know, but that's the way it goes. Back as soon as I can... (add pretty much any verb here.)

I FINISHED MY 8TH WILD WILD WEST TRAIL MARATHON

I'm back and I survived (obviously.) Didn't do my worst but didn't do my best. Middle of the pack which was good enough for a second place finish in my age group. Yeah, there was only one other 30-39 year-old but it's the thought that counts. I ran a 5:25:15 which for this trail marathon, isn't anything to throw up your guts at. Anyway, I got the pics up but the stories will have to wait until I have more blood than lactic acid running through my veins.

Thursday May 2, 2007

OK, folks, I've officially turned this webpage into a mess of announcements but I'll fix it later. For now, just know that I'm off to Lone Pine in the morning to run my 8th Wild Wild West Marathon in a row. Sir Phil is here and we drive up tomorrow, run Saturday, and drive back on Saturday night. Sir Phil will fly out Sunday so suffice it to say I'll be out of pocket until Sunday midday. Then in two weeks, I'm revisiting the Bishop 50-mile ultra. I might have truly lost my ability to think these things true but do me a favor and go back and read my history with these races and you will see I have a long-term derangement with these races.

Hopefully I'll get to the stories soon but in the mean time, why didn't any of you tell me I was getting fat last year? Check out last year's MCM pic and this year's.

We're Gonna Turn You On!!! Yes, it's finally here, my dedication page to The Electric Company.
The fictional Jarhead movie taken from the the fictional book of the same name is a farce. Read why.

I received a signed copy of Frank Schaeffer's newest book Voices From The Front and one of my stories are in it!!!

Some of my stories have been published in the book SWIFT, SILENT & SURROUNDED. It could be titled "Chicken Soup For The Marine's Soul." Go there, read a couple of samples, and order a copy. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Gunnery Sergeant Nick "Pop" Popaditch, USMC, aka THE "Cigar Marine" gets wounded and comes home.
I got around to posting my take on the Seattle Mariners' 1995 Miracle Season: Refuse to Lose. I'm not a huge sports fan but this is the single most emotional moment as a result of sports in my life. I got some mp3s here but they are a bit bloated so if you don't have high speed internet, sucks to be you (I just had to say that since I just got cable internet as of September 2003 after a long, tearful wait.)

President Reagan

A perfect summary of what the Marines thought of President Reagan. (Marine Sgt. Ethan Rocke, 26, from San Diego, cries as taps is played during interment ceremonies for former President Reagan at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.) Read about how we started corresponding!!!

Just "Stuff" I'd like to share
MARATHONS
Here I've provided my first exposure to this life-altering event. The rest of my experiences are documented in vicious detail.
MARINE CORPS BOOTCAMP
If you have ever known a Marine, you know that they all have one thing in common. They have the most incredible bootcamp stories anyone has ever heard. To read mine, go to my  BOOTCAMP page and enjoy my past suffering. (Read my brand new stories about reuniting with my Senior Drill Instructor after 12 years and many changes!)
FAMILY ALBUM
The good, the bad, and, well, you know the rest. Here's all my personal pics.
FLASH CARTOONS
The time has finally come and I decided to post the cartoons, despite their "raw" quality.

BOOKS
I am a hopeless bibliophile and encourage everyone to read as much as their eyeballs will allow. I read a lot of books but collect even more so here is a complete list and opinions of what I've read, what I own but haven't read, and what I want to get. I hope this will encourage you to get your nose into a good book.
MOVIES
I figure, if I take the the time to watch them, I should take the time to document what I think about them, if only for my own amusement. Go here for regular "run of the mill" movies and here for the ones who won the Oscar for best movie.
SEPTEMBER 11, 2001
This is my special dedication page to the brave and innocent whose lives were ended or changed forever on September 11th, 2001.
SARAH MCLACHLAN
My name is Jason and I'm a rare breed: a human male who loves Sarah's music. I've taken her music with me every place I have gone since 1997 to include Kuwait and multiple field events. I've run marathons with her singing in my ears as well as countless training hours on the road. I listen to her at work and at home. Most think I'm nuts but her music is just so soothing and really makes me relax. I categorized myself as a harmless superfan obsessed with Sarah and her music. Like all scary fans, I created my own Sarah page.
TANKS
This page is dedicated to my 18 months with 1st Tank Battalion.
IRAQ PART 1
Stories and pictures about my experiences in the 1990-1991 Gulf War.
IRAQ PART 2
This page is a collection of stories and pictures dedicated to the fighting Americans in Iraq spreading democracy and putting in all on the line for foreigners they don't even know.
