Last update: January 31, 2004
Please help me keep this
site going...
|
Welcome, come on in, look around, and please feel free to
drop me some email. I answer every one I get (eventually!!).
This webpage serves two purposes. First, it is a resource
for anyone interested in the Marine Corps and those that want
to learn more through personal accounts. Second, it is a record
of my experiences from my perspective. I provide personal information
in order to provide my readers with an insight to its author.
This site is not officially endorsed by the Marine Corps. It is
a personal site and should be read as such.
I got around to posting my take
on the Seattle Mariners' 1995 Miracle Season: Refuse
to Lose. I'm not a huge sports fan but this is the single
most emotional moment as a result of sports in my life.
I got some mp3s here but they are a bit bloated so if you
don't have high speed internet, sucks to be you (I just
had to say that since I just got cable internet as of September
2003 after a long, tearful wait.)
It is my immense pleasure to
introduce my Top Garcia
story. I reunited with one of my Drill Instructors under
much better circumstances than last time.
I know I've been remiss about
keeping the BLOG up but I'm catching up. I have a lot of
great stuff happening that I want to share. I wanted to
"offer an olive branch" but couldn't remember
the phrase. Looking up "peace leaf" on Google
returns a lot of stuff about marijuana. Not what I intended.
But here are some really good free software goodies I just
found: freebies.
Our 2003
Chrismas letter is out (posted at the 11th hour the
night before I go on a trip, of course!!!)
My diploma
came in. I guess I gotta start acting smart now.
(After I posted this and tested it online, the
link was broken. I love irony.)
MY
2nd FLASH CARTOON IS DONE!!!!!!
I'm cartooning
again!! This time with ink, paper, and a scanner.
Come and see my new strip called BOOT!!
Some of my stories have been
published in the book SWIFT,
SILENT & SURROUNDED. It could be titled "Chicken
Soup For The Marine's Soul." Go there, read a
couple of samples, and order a copy. I guarantee you won't
be disappointed.
Broken News: this is where
my "Breaking News" goes to die when it times out.

I met R. Lee Ermey (GYSGT Hartman of Full

the University of Washington's Husky stadium. Click on the picture

BOOTCAMP:
I am a Marine and if you have ever known a Marine, you
know that we all have one thing in common. We have the
most incredible bootcamp stories anyone has ever
heard. To read mine, go to my
BOOTCAMP page and enjoy my past suffering.

Drill Instructor after 12 years and many changes!) |

MOTIVATE you!! |
|
 |
MARATHONS: Here
I've provided my first exposure to this life-altering event.
The rest of my experiences
are documented in vicious detail. |
|

HUMOR: Who ever
said that the Marine Corps has no sense of humor?

CADENCE, MARINE STYLE!:
Not much can equal the sound of a hardcore Marine Corps
cadence led by a thunderous leader and repeated in unison
by a group of motivated Marines. If you've heard it, you
know exactly what I'm talking about. If you've never heard
it, words cannot describe the tingle it puts in your spine.
If you're not sure if you've heard it, then you haven't!!!
It is something you will never forget. Here
are some examples. |

and pictures you can stand. |

generous reactions to
my web page. |

SEPTEMBER 11, 2001:
This is my special dedication page to the brave and innocent
whose lives were ended or changed forever on September
11th, 2001. |
|
 |
BOOKS: I am a hopeless
bibliophile and encourage everyone to read as much as their
eyeballs will allow. I read a lot of books but collect even
more so here is a complete list and opinions of what I've
read, what I own but haven't read, and what I want to get.
I hope this will encourage you
to get your nose into a good book. |
|
 |
MOVIES: I figure,
if I take the the time to watch them, I should take the
time to document what I think about them, if only for my
own amusement. Go here for
regular "run of the mill" movies and here
for the ones who won the Oscar for best movie. |

Some More Biographical Information
- Name: Jason Donald
Grose
- Age: 35 (A few years
back, I look like this.)
- Occupation: Marine
Captain working in Quantico, VA. Former student at the Naval
Postgraduate School in Monterey
California and before that, 7th Regiment Adjutant
in sunny (sweltering) Twentynine Palms, California.
- Why I went to the
University of Washington:
I am currently in my sixteenth year in the Marine Corps. In 1993,
I was accepted into the Marine
Enlisted Commissioning Education Program which takes an enlisted
Marine and sends him or her to college. It is a win-win proposition
because I was able to go to college for four years, received my
normal paycheck, and the GI Bill picked up the costs of tuition.
Then, I earned a commission at the end!!
- Undergraduate Major:
Technical Communications
with an emphasis on webpage design.
- Graduate Major: Information Technology Management at the Naval
Postgraduate School
- Wife: (1) Carrie
Lynn
- Years married: 15
and counting
- Kids: 2, Alexander
Nicholas (11 yrs) and Stephanie
Lynn (9 yrs)
- Cats: 0, All
the cats are dead so I plan to combine a "memorial page" for them
- Dogs: 1, We got Buster
at the end of July 2001.
- Hamster: 1, Somehow,
we ended up with a rat, er, hamster named Tripod.
What else would you call a three-legged rodent? Confused? Read
this.
