Fast 5 And The Pound Game

Quote of the Day: “If you can’t remember, the claymore is pointed at you.”
- Unknown

I get the idea now. I just have to have something planned right after the run.
Today, I had a meeting at 1:30 PM so by the time I got the chance to get on the road for my 5-mile hard run at 12:15 PM, I had no time to waste.
And guess what! I ran it the fastest EVER. I know I said that last week and last week, it was true at the time with a 46:41 performance. Today I came in at a blazing 43:43!!!!
This was good news since I weighed in one pound heavier this morning. I mean, what the hell, folks? I worked out and adhered to a small taco salad for dinner (no chips). Well, maybe I did have a little bowl of peanuts before bed (I could not help it) and the salt might have caused me to retain some water, but still. Working out to the point of exhaustion, starving myself, and waking up a pound heavier SUCKS ASS!!!
OK, rant complete.
Tonight I finished my The Electric Company dedication page. I know, I know, but I had started it as a blog and it just ballooned like a peanut-eating pound-gainer. So I had to make it into a big event and create its own page.
Tonight I had a baked pork chop and a salad. Tomorrow is the first “official” weigh in and even with the bastard-commie-son-of-a-bitch pound I gained, I’m still a pound under my goal as of this morning. So even if they pound of bastard repeats itself, I’m still on track.
Free Advice for Today: “Drink eight glasses of water every day.”

Sir,
I can understand your dilemma with losing weight, I too have had trouble in the past with getting off excess weight. For the longest time I tried to keep running it off and dieting, but like you too have found the moment you stop for even the shortest time or go off your diet, it all comes crashing down. The best routine I’ve ever had that’s helped me lose those last few pounds is light cardio (bike/run 1 or 2 days a week, 30 mins tops) and the rest is high rep, low weight lifting. The calorie and fat burn from lifting isn’t as much as running/cardio at first, but its a prolonged. You’ll be burning calories/fat for several hours after you stop lifting, but you’ll stop burning as soon as 30 mins after running. Also lifting forces more of your muscles groups to work, thus increasing the amount of energy required in your diet. If your diet stays the same (well maybe a bit more protein so you don’t start breaking down muscle for fuel) you’ll see the weight drop fairly quickly. Running does train your body to use its current energy stores (what’s in your blood stream) more efficiently, that’s not super beneficial to losing weight where you’re trying to use more than just what’s in your blood stream at any given time. By using more muscles groups while weight lifting, you’re forcing your body to dig into other energy stores. Once you get an increase in muscle size (will be somewhat minimal with a high rep,low weight plan…but you are trying to slim down afterall) you’ll start burning even more. Its true that you might notice a bit of weight gain at times, but you’ll lose inches around the areas that the Body Fat test measures, so it will be compensated.
Hope this helps sir,

J.R., thanks for the great advice. I think I’ll up my workouts from 3 times a week to 5. I have to keep the running, thought because I ahve 2 marathons coming up.
