Quote of the Day: “Most people would rather be certain they’re miserable than risk being happy.”
- Robert Anthony

I awoke today with enormous bags under my eyes. It almost looked like I was in a fight and in a way, I guess I was.
And I lost.
I could go on and on but no one wants to read about how miserably sick I am so I will move on to a better topic:
We have family in town.
(I know, when I’m on my deathbed but what can you do?)
With a wife who is the oldest of 5, it’s not an uncommon occurrence that we have company but I always feel guilty because I’m normally so busy that I don’t get all the time I would like to spend with them.
And now with being sick, I might not be the most pleasant human being around. I said “might”!
Nevertheless, my sister-in-law came to visit for week. She is the youngest of my wife’s siblings and was the tender young age of 11 when I first darkened the door of my future in-laws.
I can still remember the day because I came into the house, sat at the table, and Becky came bounding down the stairs, and plopped herself right on my knee.
No introduction, no nothing. All she knew is that I was her sister’s new boyfriend.
Now at 32, she has a less exuberant reaction when she sees me but nothing less than a true brother.
The other bit of trivia about her is that she was born on the Bicentennial. Yep, right on the day, July 4th, 1976. When she was little, her parents told her that all the fireworks were in celebration of her birthday.
So for a week she gets to be here in sunny San Diego (although it’s cloudy today) and she can get some quality time with her big sister.
And hopefully some with the shriveled up knocking-on-Death’s-door pitiful excuse for a human coughing up green stuff in the corner.
Glad I wasn’t in this state back in 1987. I think she would’ve thought twice before hopping up on my knee.
Free Advice for Today: “When someone is relating an important event that’s happened to them, don’t try to top them with a story of your own. Let them have the stage.”
