The Internet Explorer 8.0 Browser War

They just released Internet Explorer 8.0!!!!!!!!!!!!

Um, beta……

(bwa bwa bwa bwaaaaaaaaaa)

OK, here’s the deal, folks. I’m a Microsoft guy, more so than most. I loves me my Microsoft and for the longest time, IE and me were tizzzzight.

Yeah, yeah, my first dabbling way back when the web still had amniotic fluid all over it, I did pick up and read a Netscape book cover to cover but to my defense, IE did not exist back then.

Side note: I saw the birth of the web, educated myself about the first browser ever (Netscape…don’t give me this Mosaic argument, it was hardly a real browser and it was just Navigator’s zygote form anyway), and may have had one of the first 1000 webpages ever in existence on what we now known as the Internet.

But back then I was a Sergeant going through a commissioning program, attending the University of Washington, and I had to watch the Internet train pull out of the station without me as I diverged into my career as a Marine Corps Officer. Oh, the “what ifs….”

So, back to IE.

Like I said, I was a die hard IE fan all the way through version 6.0 and then I was lured over to the Firefox wagon, took a sip, and have been kind of leading a dual life ever since.

I would have probably completely turned over to Firefox if my own blog rendered better in it. So when I blog (read or write), I use my trusty IE 6.0 but for everything else, Mozilla, baby.

Then came IE 7.0 and I was all excited and giddy. I downloaded it and gave my opinion. Seems I was resistant to change but recognized this as just the natural aversion to something new. I gave it a month or so and just could not live with it any longer. I explain it all here but the bottom line is that I reverted back to my trusty IE 6.0 and that’s where I’ve been for awhile now.

Now they come out with 8.0.

Ying: Dude, you can use the latest and greatest browser. It’s there for the taking!

Yang: Yeah, but remember what happened with version 7.0?

Ying: Yeah, but if you don’t convert, you’re 2 versions behind and they are eventually going to stop supporting 6.0.

Yang: But duuuuuude, it’s still in beta.

Ying: yeah but they have that button that reverts for you on the fly

Yang: look jackass, that reverts it to 7.0, not 6.0.

Ying: Who are you calling jackass, you are the one who is using Flintstone-era browsers.

Yang: dude, don’t be like that. Look, I didn’t mean it. Tell ya what, how about we wait until the official release comes out so they can work out the bugs and then we’ll see?

Ying: You mean it? I mean, (snuffle), you’re not just saying that to make me feel better…

Yang: well, maybe until the first support package comes out so more of the bugs can be fixed….

Ying: I KNEW it! Jackass.
