Got Things Done

Quote of the Day: “A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove that you don’t need it.”

- Bob Hope

Awhile back, I got hooked on “Getting Things Done.”

While I can say that I have not followed the tenants to the letter (although I’m still trying), it has helped me out immensely. I’ve been more productive than I’ve ever been but unfortunately it has been offset by the sheer amount of stuff I have needed to get done. In the end, I still come out about even.

Today, I was the poster boy for getting things done. Without my email blowing up at work, my phone not ringing off the hook, I set my own agenda and was like a bee hopping from flower to flower, pollinating the hell out of the details I needed to attend to.

I made an appointment to get my passport photos taken, even remembering to bring in a collared shirt. I needed 20 in uniform and 20 in a civilian shirt so I took one with me when I went to the CVIC (Combat Visual Information Center) where they could do this for me for free.

I don’t really like how they turned out but there are precious few pictures of myself that DON’T make me lurch.

From there, I wandered over to the RAB (Recruit Administration Branch) and got a Sergeant I know to hook me up with a couple sets of dog tags. I needed some for my trip overseas and wasn’t sure I could find my old sets.

While I was there at Receiving (shuddering at the Yellow Footprints), I turned in yet more paperwork for my new assignment.

Then I stopped over at the Recruit PX where I bought a case of razors because they are like half-price of what you get in the store and I thought a big supply to last me a year would be a good idea.

Lastly, I drove over to medical and took my PPD. It’s a shot we get and after three days, you have to go back and get it read to make sure you didn’t have any kind of reaction to it.

Never makes me feel happy.

“Great, your arm didn’t turn black and fall off. You’re good.”

Reminds me…

All this before 1000. I felt like a Getting Things Done god.

Back at the office, this attitude continued and I was knocking down projects like swinging at a tennis ball cannon.

Wish every day was like this but sometimes it’s pretty much the opposite: sitting at my desk wondering if I will have the motivation not to crap my pants if the feeling arrives.
