Nine at Lone Pine

Quote of the Day: “The only way to discover the limits of the possible is to go beyond them into the impossible.”

- Arthur C. Clarke

It’s that time of year again. For the ninth year in a row, I’m heading to Lone Pine California to run the Wild Wild West Trail Marathon.

I will be without my long-time running sidekick Sir Phil because he decided to wreck himself on his bike recently.

So I will be solo this year but will be joined by my lovely wife who agreed to take care of the logistics this year.

I run on Saturday, May 3rd so send good vibes my way Saturday morning.

Race report if when I return.

I Love My Clan

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Quote of the Day: “It only takes 20 years for a liberal to become a conservative without changing a single idea.”

- Robert Anton Wilson

The picture above is of my great-great grandfather and all his children. The picture is in a frame that my grandmother kept in her house since 1984 when it was taken and when Grandma sold her house and moved into a retirement home, she gave it to me.

I keep it on my nightstand to remember the people I come from.

One of the pictured children, my Great-Aunt Ramona, recently celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary. My mother and her sister attended and they sent me the pictures below.

You know one of the great details I noticed?

Everyone dressed up for the occasion.

This may sound like an insignificant detail but in this day of comfort clothes, you don’t see many people dress up for anything other than a wedding or a funeral.

The fact all of these people dressed up in celebration of a 50th anniversary speaks volumes to me. It tells me I come from good stock and I take great pride from this.

It looks like they had a great time and I guarantee there was loud music, loud laughing, and loud conversation going on the whole night.

I love my clan.

Happy anniversary Uncle Bill and Aunt Rae.
