On April 27th, 2003, I ran my 6th marathon in the form
of the 2003 Big Sur International Marathon. My overriding goal
was to beat my goal of 4 hours from the year before. This accomplishment
would also mark a PR so I had my work cut out for me.
Also for the second year in a row, the Big Sur marked
the first of three events that included a trail marathon (Lone
Pine Wild Wild West) a week later, and a 50 Mile Ultra-marathon
(Bishop High Sierra) two weeks
after that. Yes, mental stability is not my strong point.
Here are my stories for this first event where I was
determined to look the 4-hour monster in the face and fool him
into thinking I was capable of victory.
