The adventure begins. This toyland is in the San Jose
airport and I took the pic while waiting for Phil. Basically,
it's in the corner of a big open area. Translated: a beacon
for kids to be unbelievably loud and annoying. |
 |
Sir Phil arrives from Virginia with all his belongings
to attack the race course. He tried to kiss me but I gut
punched him for the attempt. |
 |
A blurry pic of Phil in my kitchen after we drove
back to my house. We stayed the night before driving 8 hours
the next day to Lone Pine. |
 |
For the 4th year running, we stayed at the famous
(at least for us) Dow Villa. I have no idea what the big
gray thing is on the left. |
 |
Just in case the first pic didn't turn out... |
 |
Sir Phil sure knows how to pose, does he not?
(Yes, yes he does.) |
 |
Right across the street is another tradition,
The Pizza Factory. Its confections have proudly resided
in my bowels during every race. |
 |
Inside the Dow Villa. This motel was famous for
being there since the days of old. There are autographed
memorabilia from John Wayne, Roy Rogers, and a bunch of
old people that I assume were once real famous. |
 |
Other than being an annoying ass with my new digital
camera, I took this picture just to show that there were
places there that were "established in 1895."
I think some of the townsfolk were, too. |
 |
Frosty was a spirited horsie. We watched him prance
around and finally jump up on this roof where he reared
up and gave out a mighty winney. Goosebumps covered my entire
body as I witnessed the spectacle and caught this dramatic
shot. |
 |
Lone Pine was a cold bastard the day we arrived.
Not good considering the next day we were climbing up to
over 6000 ft. |
 |
The clouds hovered around the mountains in a spooky
scene that was freakin' me out! |
